Yes...new guy here. Seems all the great ones have learned by ear and I'm stuck to my tabs...playing like a mynah bird. So....I'm going to start listening to records (CDs) like in the old days and try to figure out tunes on my own. (...and stop tabbing out my Murphy DVDs!)

	From Greylock to Bean Blossom says: 1/3/2012 6:29:41 PM You might consider getting the Amazing Slow Downer, It only costs $50 and you can slow it down without changing the pitch. You can break a song down into 8 parts and store them separately so you can hear them over and over again. Their is a looping feature that lets the song or any chosen segment of the song play continually. You can use this to listen to it or try to play with it. Trying to learn to play be ear has changed my whole perspective of learning the banjo. Tab to me always felt mechanical. I once heard Kenny Ingram say that your ear is your most important tool and slow downer has allowed my poor ear to progress a bit. Good luck and enjoy. Ken
