Hi all, would anyone have some advice on the best, ie cheapest way to ship a banjo bought in the States into NZ? The taxes are ferocious!

Otherwise I think you might need to get a friendly tourist to bring one over. Or buy one from the UK because the pound is still sinking! nzpost.co.nz/tools/youshop

You may want to consider getting the seller remove the neck and ship everything in a smaller box and declared as banjo parts. Having imported instruments over the years, the GST component is attracted at anything above NZ$400. It does depend whether the instrument is new or used.

What about the option of having a friend bring it back as luggage, or a friend ship it to me as a gift, would it still get pinged for the GST?
