Here's an ongoing and contentious attempt to stratify banjo levels, terminology and costings, (with ecxh. rate 0.8 & gst at 15% heh !, heh!). Can the Chinese even with American know how produce an elite level banjo, would the Americans even if they could wish to produce a beginner level banjo. Where have the Clawhammer guys gone, would a "true" bluegrass banjo have anything other than a maple rim, oh yes it would ... oh no it wouldn't. Doh !.

Neat diagram Steve. From my point of view I'd say the Bronze Tone Ring bar and the 3 ply maple Rm bar should start at or a lot closer to the $800 mark. But I think you captured the first two rows really well

Yeah, 100% with the maple, RK's well down to that price point, don't forget New Zealand dollar is weak to US, I got the basic idea for the comparison from a US website, and tried to refine it, & the terminology, " introductory level" is wide and you can have a basic performance level without it being a Pro level. Quite a bit of missunderstanding down here about what is what ! A lot of very cheap stuff sold here because of the low NZ dollar. I will have to research the Bronze ring but i dont have any dought that you are right. not looked at that closely. Good comment.

You know, the only thing I would change at first blush is the Deering Goodtime banjo, in its various configurations, is a really good beginner/student banjo and it is within the 400-500 price range.

The diagram has disappeared, I can not believe that it was that contentious !. Was it censored ?. Can anyone explain ?

The updated diagram is now on my homepage !

It was, now its not.

I didn't see anything offensive about your diagram. Maybe the computer gremlins go it? Am I to understand that it has now disappeared from your homepage (at this site)? Again, I don't know why...
Monday, February 6, 2012 @8:23:05 PM
Yes, gone from my homepage at this site, watched all three of them disappear one at a time, the link where the image was is still there, on my homepage on this site at this time. May put a link to the diag. in the near future, See if anything happens to that, or may even start a forum on my own site - not that it would receive much use but i know that it would not be censored if that is indeed what is happening.

Should say the blog section on that home page.

Have you asked the moderators about this? I'm sure if they pulled it they would tell you why. I can't imagine why they would remove this from your post and if they did - I would also like to know why.
I still wonder if it isn't a technical issue...

Landru is the technical issue. I do not wish to draw another flag for helmet to helmet during the two minute drill, even the term Landrou would be flagged. You have to go subspace for that discussion. To be balanced I may be paraoid, however there are UAE's, (Unidentified Aerial Phenomena) at area 51.

In this context obfuscation = more talk = US$ Enterprise = do not stratify or clarify, or, do not undermine the aims & objectives of the talk shop, which is ?.
