The like has never been seen in NZ before. This is a Robin Smith ‘Heartland’ reproduction Gibson.
This came to me in bits with items missing. I was tasked to complete it and get it playable. This I have done. I have sourced non-top tension parts basically to keep the cost down. These are very expensive. The armrest is ‘Goldtone’ with the name engraved on it. I have used black cap screws instead of the original TT tensioners. The black offsets the gold beautifully. The resonator attachment hardware was sourced from Recording King.
The neck is not original to the pot and had been made as a custom order by Robin. It matches beautifully. The fretboard is radiused with a slimmer profile than a standard Mastertone style neck. All the other hardware/tuners etc are original. The fretboard has spikes installed at 7, 8 & 9. Comes with a new ‘Gator’ case.
The finish is VG-EX. There is no fret wear at all. It looks as if it hasn’t been played.
The sound is what you would expect from Robin’s banjos. It has a wonderful ‘crack’ and ‘punch’ (reminiscent of Gibson).
Asking price $4000 but this is negotiable. I don’t know the shipping cost yet.
