RK 80 Banjo for sale
It is with some reluctance I offer up this banjo for sale. It has served me extremely well. I am very particular about the banjos I have owned and played.
This one is a monster! It has a punch and a tone that expresses how it was made, and this to the highest quality. It is a professional grade model that competes with the Gibson Mastertones (which were the standard and from which most other banjos are copied). I have owned two Gibson Mastertones over time and have played many more and can attest that this banjo is right up there with them!
This RK 80 model was the original modern Recording King 5-string bluegrass banjo model. It's design and looks are based on the old Gibson Recording King Models from the 1930's.
Re-introduced by Greg Rich (USA), he started with Gibson OAI (Original Acoustic Instruments) in 1987 and left in 1993. OAI was a very small part of the Gibson musical instrument empire and made banjos and mandolin. By the time he started, the quality of OAI products had gone right down-hill badly. Greg single handedly dragged the quality up where instruments made during his tenure (called the Greg Rich era) are considered extremely desirable. Gibson OAI ceased manufacturing due to the 2010 flood in Nashville where the facility was completely destroyed.
Greg Rich revived the brand in 2007 and establish the modern Recording King company. Its banjos are now considered one of the best in the world.
The RK 80 model was discontinued in 2015. It is very rare therefore that one comes up for sale.
It intonates (plays in tune) cleanly up and down the fretboard.
It comes with its official RK vintage Deluxe Hard Case
These cases are utterly exceptional. The banjo fits in tight which is crucial for safety and there are padded wedges that keep the peg head from moving and perfectly aligned. The top of the case is arched for even more protection.
I realise I am gushing in describing this instrument but it is truly a fantastic banjo in all senses of the word. I am only relinquishing it as I am down grading.
I have installed capo spikes in the 7th, 9th & 10th frets for playing in keys of A, B & C.
I am the only one in the Wellington region who does this!
Comes with new Neotech strap.
I am not sure how to upload photos here.
