I am basically a beginner, especially when it comes to trying to adjust my banjo.

I have an ob250 (with an upgraded tone ring + some other stuff) and just changed my strings. Prior to changing them - no buzz...great sound.

I had 10-12-16-23-10 and was told to put on some lighter strings, so I put on 9-10-13-20-9

Now, when fretting the 4th and 3rd strings, I get a vibration (not quite a buzz) that is annoying.

Looks like the strings are quite close to the frets on the 3-5 frets when I fret it, but not touching unfretted.

I need some help as I want to learn how to make minor adjustments and not be afraid to change my strings.

What does the tail piece actually do? Could this raise the strings a bit?

	Paulf says: 9/11/2013 2:25:41 PM You may want to post this in the general set up section of the forum as you may get more answers. Tailpiece won't affect the string height. The nut might be slotted to suit heavier strings and now that you have put in lighter strings they might be sitting lower.

Not sure about the nut..that is an interesting suggestion. I thought my neck was straight as this did not happen with the heavier strings. Will post this in the general set up section later today. I have tried different strings on my Gold Tone OB 250+. - The last time I have been playing Elixir 10 - 12 - 16 - 23 - 10. - I think thats the set I`ll be using. I Like the sound the banjo have, when I use those strings. - Easy to play, and not so Sharp a sound. -
	barry104 says: 9/14/2013 11:59:42 AM I looked at the Goldtone web site and apparently all the banjos have recommended strings that are very similar to what Torben is using (except 4th string is 24 not 23). I had the heavier (10 12 16 23 10) strings on before I changed to the light ones and all was fine. Question- is anyone successfully using the lighter strings? Thanks, Barry
	Paulf says: 9/14/2013 2:07:10 PM Barry, I didn't think of this before but I should have. Check the head tension because when I got my two new banjos delivered the heads needed tightening and you might find if this is the case for you it may fix the problem. Steve Davis has a easy method for checking the head so just search his name and you will come across his method.
