I've spent the past few months playing on-and-off for fun (learning melody to Cripple Creek) and have been avoiding learning the hard skills, so I'll be writing about what I'm doing to take practicing more seriously for the upcoming 1-2 weeks.
1. Banjo Rolls, I'll be slowly picking the Forward Roll, and the Alternating Thumb Roll. Also the basic clawhammer bum-ditty, and the pinch roll from this free online graphic. (So #1, 7, 14, and bum-ditty)
mosaicmusicinstruction .com/wp-content/uploads/2019/03/Banjo-Rolls-in-44.pdf
2. Chords, I'll be practicing G-C-D (I-IV-V) more and getting comfortable with those basic basic hand positions. I'm putting myself through my own "beginner bootcamp" so a beginner, customary, folk song to learn is Bile them Cabbage Down which use those chords. I already have an arrangement printed off for when I want to play along with a music video and learn the melody.
I'll be replying underneath here with notes or progress, and will create a different post in a week or two when I choose to learn different rolls or versions of that song. Take care.
