I have a one year old WL-250. When I got it it had a head on it with a 3/8" high collar. (The distance from the top of the metal rim is 3/8" from the top of the head.) It developed a rip that screwed up the sound. Wayne at Gold Tone told me this banjo ships with a 1/2" high head. I suggested that perhaps the undersized head contributed to the head damage, but Wayne hasn't responded. I replaced the head with a 1/2" high head and it seems fine now.
If you have a WL-250, would you mind measuring the height of the head (from the bottom of the tension hoop to the estimated top of the head) and posting what you find here? I think the easiest place to measure is right next to the neck where you can see the head easier over the neck.
Thanks.
