1930's KK-10 conversion. Metal is all original with the exception of flange (original was broken) and newer Presto tailpiece. I was told that a West Coast luthier did the conversion but am not sure of the name. That said, the conversion would stand toe-toe with the best (Neat, Smith etc.). The tone ring is a Curtis McPeake and the ring/rim fit is perfect. It's what I call a "snug" slip fit, the fit that always produces the best tone to my ears.
The neck-to-pot fit is flawless and I think that in conjunction with the tone ring fit are contribute to the banjo's deep rich tone.
The mahogany neck itself has a beautiful "butterscotchy" rosewood fingerboard and the wreath inlay work is precise and flawless as well.
In terms of tone it's a powerful banjo that you can really dig into but just as important to me (and maybe even more so) it has an intrinsic sweetness and overall richness of tone that's always there. I think it's an exceptional conversion.
There's a 3-day trial period with this banjo, so you can decide if you agree with me.
My hunch is that you will.
