Currently, 2-3 x month:

Pardini SP New .22 - ISSF (Standard and Sports Pistol).

CZ 75 9mm ISSF (Centrefire) and IPSC (make my own ammo).

Used to shoot feral pigs with a Beretta S56E O/U back in high school days. Shot pigs for a little while with the CZ 75, but stopped over 15 years ago.

Used to shoot wallabies and roos for dog food with a Savage .222, but haven't had multiple dogs since the mid 1980s.

I find target shooting as relaxing as banjo picking.

All my hunting prey nowadays are fish, and most get released.

I am fortunate enough to have a local gun shop where the proprietor refuses to jack up prices unless he absolutely has to due to suppliers. He has said many times that he depends on his customers coming back after the ammo and AR15 panic has run its course. He is a guy, ex-military, who spent an hour with my son fitting him to the proper auto-loader for his hand size. He has shown me his invoice for a firearm and asked if I thought certain percentage for profits is reasonable. He marketing strategy of being fair with his custormer works.

Couple of years ago a new Dick's opened nearby - they had a deal on Federal 9mm ammo, 50 rounds at $9 with another coupon that brought every other box down to $6. I got 1,500 rounds of 9mm Luger. I put four boxes through my Dan Wesson Guardian 9 then I sold the gun. I figured I still had a Walther P38 - I'd use up the ammo eventually. Took the Walther out with a few boxes of the Federal and I found that the mag won't feed the rounds properly. Cleaned the mags up real good - same problem. Tried some Winchester 9mm - works fine. Now I have 1,200+ rounds of Federal 9mm that won't work in any gun I own...disapprove

I guess it's time to buy another 9mm something or another..wink

I stocked up on .22 ammo a few years back, should be good for a while yet. Approx 17000 of Fed in bulk packs plus a bunch of misc other brands. I know many people like matching ammo to a gun but I like the fact that I can grab whatever .22 I want for the day (I've got a few) and don't have to worry about what ammo I've got. I'm not so much of a precision shooter, if I can peg a 12 gauge hull at 50 yds I'm happy. My CZ 452 is a nice rifle, if I practice a bit I can get a golf ball at 100. That's as precise as I worry about.

I am an avid Colt collectore and did gun collector shows throughout Virginia and Maryland when I lived in Fredericksburg, Va. Also love to shoot, mostly pistol which was really great in Virginia with Clark Bros just up the road and an Isaac Walton League facility nearby. Here in Michigan, ranges within easy distance are all indoor but there is a fine gun club about 20 miles North of me. I am a member of the Colt Collectors Assoc. and plan to get back into collector shows and I shoot pistols about 1 to 2 times per week (.22 Cal). Favorite shooters are My Colt Targetsman, Colt Huntsman, 1911 Colt .22, and Thompson Center Contender (interchangable barrels for .222 cal, .45 Colt caliber and .357 caliber). The .22s are cheap and fun to shoot, the other calibers listed I load myself so they are not too expensive to shoot.

BConk, back in the early 90's we were shooting a lot more than we do now.  I had a Colt model 1911 in .45 ACP,    I decided I wanted a Bren 10 Delta Elite.  That was my first experience with a 10 mm hand gun.  That was a nice pistol, it packed a punch but the ammo was outrageous and (at least back then) could not be reloaded.  I sold it to a friend who still has it.

That's why I love having a second barrel in 40 S&W for my Pointman 7 - 10. It's relatively cheap ammo and it shoots as smooth as silk in that gun.

Love hunting and shooting. I have a Kimber 1911. That thing is one of the best shooting pistols I ever owned. I shoot everything from black powder to AR15. I also shoot bow. I think I like the bow because of the Dukes of Hazard and those boys shooting an arrow with dynamite taped to the end.

Also welcome to the BHO.

I wanted a .45 ACP back around 1986.  The president of our local gun club knew where there was a Colt .45 for sale and I got it.  It was a model 1911 (not the A1)  I took it to Peterson's gun shop here in Central Florida and had the ramp polished because it was corroded from the old primers.  I had it Parkerized in blue and put the wood grips back on.   Dang I sold that thing.  that's the one gun I wish I would have hung on to.  It may not have been worth anything, I think I sold it for 400 dollars back in 87.  But back then I didn't realize the difference in the Colt model 1911 and the later versions.  This one didn't have the cut out behind the trigger where you finger goes and it had a shorter beaver tail so it was easy to get hammer bite.

I got mad after I got the gun back from the gun shop.  The first thing I did was break it down and when putting it back together I slipped when putting the pin back in and made a half moon scratch in my new finish.

I had been going to some pin matches at the range and I wanted a .45 ACP to shoot bowling pins.

Randy,
I have both a 1911 and a 1911A1, they are both military and in mint condition. Love the A1s as they are fun to shoot (but expensive at today's prices of in excess of $1 per round). I tried to reload them but too many problems encountered. That is why I got the .22 cal version of the 1911. Fun to shoot, cheap and feels great in my hands. They are made under Colt contract and specs by Walther and imported by UMAREX for Colt. As far as bowling pin shooting goes, my Thompson Center Contender in .45 Colt is fantastic.

dat - Posted - 05/21/2013:  07:13:51

what kind of troubled did you have?    the 45 acp is normally easy to reload, biggest thing is keeping case length in specs since the headspace is on the end of the case

tkocason - Posted - 05/21/2013:  08:56:18

I shoot 1-2 x's a week. We started casting our own bullets. Do our own reloading as well. Mostly 45 acp, 38/357 target loads, and 380 auto.
We also load 762x54r and 45-70 for the rifles.
My favorite sub-moa rifle is a Mosin nagant m-44 unissued polish model. it's just too cool and very good with a long eye relief scope.
I found some molds for the AK - 47 finally, ( 312 - 155)had to pay a bunch of money for them, so soon we'll be loading for that too.
I have a 5" 1911 -A1 (taurus) and a Kimber ultra carry II.
The best pocket pistol ever is my Sig p238 (380).
I have a Bersa Thunder plus in 380 also. 15 round mag.....
a couple of shotguns as well...
We shoot for around .10 cents a round for pistols and .35 cents for rifles.....took some setting up money though, that's for sure.

Did some long overdue house cleaning this spring. You know, under benches, behind boxes,
and so on. It seems that I have squirrelled away 12 flats of 12ga trap loads and a couple of 20ga.
About 1/2 #8 and 1/2 #7.5, which is fine for our upland birds. Found 1/2 dozen boxes of clays, too! Just goes to show that I do't get out much any more. Gave away 1/2 dozen boxes of #4 & #5 to a guy in pheasant country. Maybe I score a bird or two.
I do have some #2 and some SSG for dealing with highway wildlife collision work.

John Allison - Posted - 05/21/2013:  10:36:22

Dat,
I never had any real problems with the reloads except an occasional misfeed/jam. My wife, who fires an Officers Model Light Weight gets a number of misfeeds which she does not get (except on rare occasion) with factory loads. I have been told that this may be due to under/over crimp. So, I just gave up reloading the ACP.

trapdoor2 - Posted - 05/21/2013:  10:44:22

Lessee...got my moniker from shooting/collecting Trapdoor Springfields (and Gibson trapdoor banjos).

Although I shot occasionally with my Dad as a kid, I didn't really start shooting in earnest until the mid 1980's. By the 1990's, I was burning up a thousand rounds of .38 Super and .45ACP a week playing "gun games" at our local indoor range. I really enjoyed Bowling Pin shooting. Shot a S&W 625 so much that the backstrap is almost cut thru from erosion. When the range closed (it was bought out and converted to office space), I moved to rifle games. I shot Hipower with a Garand for a year or two but traded it in for an AR-15 tricked out by Compass Lake Engineering. I never shot higher than "expert" in Hipower competition.

When the blackpowder bug bit me, it all but wiped out my Hipower career. Turned out that I was pretty good at Black Powder Cartridge Silhouette...made NRA Master quickly and experimented with a bunch of different rifles. My best rifle is a Browning Hiwall in .45-90 but my favorite is a CPA Stevens in .35-40 Maynard; it just barely knocks over the Rams...but anything that goes over counts! I've done quite well in regional competition but never had the time/money to go to the nationals. Also shot a few Scheutzen matches...not enough of them around here though.

Muzzleloading has always been fun, so I've done a good bit of that as well. Took 1st place in the 2001 Long Range Muzzle Loading Regionals at the 300m distance. Had a malfunction at 600m but got my rifle functional by the time we got to 1,000m...and just couldn't get my sh*t together.

I've been reloading since the '80's and casting since the 90's. Got burned out by 2003 and haven't pulled a trigger since. I plan on getting back into it when I retire.

the officers model light weight is more prone to misfeeds, mostly, but not always from not a firm grip on recoil

That's who worked on mine too. He accurized the rifle with the original heavy barrel, then I had one of the armorers at the Ft Benning Army Marksmanship Unit put a new barrel on it a year later. Frank White at Compass Lake Engineering does some really good work.

Stupidity is what scares me. Doctors kill thousands more people than any crime with a gun. Vehicles kill thousands more people than guns. The wrong medical prescription kills thousands more than guns. A gun can't do anything by itself and is no more dangerous than an eraser. It is the user that chooses to do something else.

I've had guns all my life....can't remember how young when I got my first one, but I think I was 7....a Stevens single shot .22.   I like weapons in general....  Probably have a dozen guns, 7 or 8 bows, lots of knives, and a box full of rocks.   I've never shot anyone accidently......did shoot my brother-in-law about 40 years ago, but he had it coming.   wink

More seriously, I hunt whatever is in season here in Montana except for waterfowl...never did get into that.   In September I'm going up to the Nunavit Border to hunt caribou.  Next year I have a hunt planned to Northern British Columbia to hunt Moose...   I like the adventure of being in the wilderness and I love wild game on the table.  I'm not getting any younger and I need to do these things while I still can...   Time takes no prisoners.....

Even that grenade won't do anything on its own. Is someone doesn't arm it, and place it somewhere after it is armed, it is harmless. So is the damage the grenades fault? or is it the person that chooses to do something with it? Yes that grenade by itself is as harmless as an eraser. No law will stop anyone from committing a crime with a grenade either.

They are a brace of 1816/1822 French cavalry pistols, about .69 calibre. They were converted from flintlock to percussion around 1850. They came over to the Western Hemisphere when Napoleon III decided to make Mexico part of his empire in around 1860. The two of them sat in holsters on either side of the pommel of the horse and a leather lanyard went from the ring at the bottom of the butt, over the soldier's shoulder to the other pistol. If one popped out of the holster, it wouldn't be lost.

Then, they were purchased for use by the Confederacy in the Civil War even though they were outmoded by that time.

Glad to see this thread took off! I don't think I have enough time to post pics of all my firearms, but the highlights are:

Uberti '73 lever in .45 Colt, 7.5" Ruger New Vaquero in the same

'14 Gov't Model (x2) documented sold to Canadian Gov't for CEF, both with owners' name/rank/etc engraved on slide

'18 M1911

'18 RAF Gov't Model in .455

'29 Super .38 (first production year)

'43 Colt's M1911a1 and Rem Rand of same year

'45 Ithaca M1911a1

And a bunch of misc newer manufacture Colt's, Springfields, etc. Here's a pic of most of my 1911 pattern pistols, had a bunch out for cleaning a while ago, gave up after this many. And my dad says my license plate really shows how red my neck really is! I think he's jealous that he didn't get the plate first though haha.

Also have a serious addiction to old N frame S&W revolvers, Ruger o/u shotguns, Ruger single shot rifles, and basically anything chambered in .270 Win.

Oh yeah there is also a pile of old Savage o/u combo guns laying around here on a regular basis, can't seem to stop buying them. Currently only have a 30-30/20, .22mag/20 and a Camp Carbine in .22lr/20 though.
