I understand a large part of Europe is experiencing a serious heat wave. I'm hearing it's a little rough over there because air conditioning is not a standard feature of homes and businesses?
Well, here is the southeast US, we are in the middle of a heat dome. Here in the upstate South Carolina area, it's been right at 100 degrees (before heat index) for about a week now, not much break in the near future. Yesterday with heat index was about 105 degrees. Many days now. Kinda brutal.
They're saying El Niño is gonna makes things worse...
Just wondering how others are faring over the BHO globe ...
I remember in my work -a spell this hot--I pondered to the experts--should I put my coat on--when the the temperature gets past 98.6--
pretty much no records broke yet --heat index 110 last week
the news just said-- the world water temperature was at --an all time high

Gee, our summers are normally in the 100 plus range for days on end. We just grin and put up with it, counting the days until fall and winter. No use complaining, as that's the way it's been for ever.
Luckily, most all our houses have some sort of air conditioning, either swamp cooler (water cooled) or refrigerated air. Now, if you can pay the electric bill, you can stay nice and cool and cozy. If you have trouble paying a $300 plus bill, then you have to turn that temp up and not be so cool and comfy.
Not so bad here, but it is my least favorite time of year despite the blue skies and sunshine.
Apple weather says 84 degrees about 25 miles south of Boston around noon time today, which is 1 degree above the average. My backyard thermometer says 90 degrees and it is humid. I don't mind dry heat, but dislike humidity. We've had a few high 90's temps during the last week, but cooling down over the next week.
Tom: "I remember in my work..... ."
^^ brought back memories of a construction boss/foreman we had in the late 1970s. Once or twice each summer [in Eastern MB] it would get hot enough* that mid-afternoon he'd proclaim: "We're getting %$&#-all done here; we might as well be in Casey's.**" And, as he was the boss, it came to pass. ![]()
* maybe low 90s F. ?? ... we weren't inundated with data/weather watches and warnings like we are today. ![]()

Yeah it's the HUMIDITY that makes it rough. A month or so ago it hit in the high 90's here with very low humidity and it felt just fine. Right now the humidity is crazy high and when it's 100 degrees, it feel like the air is thick and you're walking in soup.
Relative humidity here on July 3 was between 74% and 94%. With that temperature, just *being* outside doing *anything* (like walking from here to there) you turn into a puddle of sweat.*
*The Old and Fat thing might have a little sumthin' to do with it just maybe...

It's regularly in the 30's here (or high 80's-90's in old money). Hottest June day on record in London. But a solid Victorian brick house is a pretty good heat sink so we don't really need A/C - yet.
What happened to those interminable threads where some guy from New Zealand claimed that global warming is a myth ?
Temps here are running a bit low for this tiime of year—mid-80s-mid-90s. Of course, we don’t get the humidity seen in the Midwest and Southeast ether. The hottest place in the Central Valley tends to be Redding, at the far northern end. Back in the late ‘60s, I was living there when one summer (‘68 ?) the high temp hit 100 or more (a few days above 110) for 30 days running. Day 31 was 99, then back to 100+ for another week or so. Of course climate change wasn’t an issue then. Redding’s been hot for decades.

think its hot now ? this is a cake walk compared to about 300 million years ago... now buddy it was really hot then..... that was global warming in overdrive.
Currently Sunday 3:30 PM. Temperature is 22*C which is 74*F. Its seems hot to me and yes we have no air conditioning. We have it in the car and it does get used about 20 times a year. The problem is that if we don't feel 80F very often it feels like a blast furnace. We are only 15 minutes from the ocean so the humidity can be added to the sensation. We have waited 8 months for warmer weather so I better not complain too loud. My favourite time is usually September.

Frank, we drive through Peshtigo every time we go to Green Bay or Milwaukee. Your Ex was NOT wrong about the seasons, we do get cut short in spring and fall.
Slammer!!!
Sometimes we wisecrack [with some justification] that we have 2 seasons, winter and road construction season.
