Recent history but thinking of the Humboldt hockey bus crash and the accident near Carberry.
I’ve driven along there hundreds of times and I’ve never noticed a problem there. Another article mentions that fog often collects there,, who knows….

A Canadian history “adjacent” film clip - this is how the American side of the Falls ended up with huge boulders at its feet. The bottom photo shows how they negatively impact the beauty of the Falls.

We had electricity, but no running water in our elementary school [Makaroff in the previously mentioned Makaroff-Togo shindig]. I guess we were a step up (?) from the one roomed schoolhouses .... ours was "consolidated" ... one building was 2-story / 3 classroom brick, and another a nearby 2-room wood-framed building.

About 1960, to get us ready for the impending province-wide "divisional" set-up, we were taken to a half-day orientation (?) in Roblin.  As we were schlepping along the hallway, I heard the principal motion toward a door and say, "This is the boys' labratory," and  the a few seconds later, "And this is the girls' labratory."  I quietly asked a friend/classmate why they had separate labs for the boys/girls.  "Owen, you moron!! ... He said lavatory, NOT laboratory!!"

The family of one of my classmates lived in the creek valley about 1/2 off the road. His parents had not gotten electricity when rural electrification went through in the early 50s.  [He'd walk out the 1/2 mile and catch the bus .... no bus shelter... he just put his parka hood up and turned his back to the wind. Fwiw, his attendance was v-e-r-y good.]  In any event, when we get to school one a.m., he's got one brown shoe and one black one. Turned out his mom had purchased two pairs of shoes for him through Eaton's mail-order ... one for "everyday" wear and one for "good" shoes....both pair the same style/size but diff colours. Apparently he got dressed in the a.m. without bothering to light a coal-oil lamp.  But, but, but, all's well that end's well. yes

... a half mile from the main road.... NOT 1/2 off [i.e. 1/2 on] the road.

From the Windsor Star, Nov. 7, 1934:

May be an image of text

IIRC an entry in Barry Broadfoot's book Ten Lost Years mentioned that during the depression "... everybody just seemed to go a little crazy."

1889 Fort Calgary,, Elbow River in the foreground,, bridge across the Bow River in the background. Some of the water will end up in Hudson Bay after traveling/flowing thousands of miles
