Mare-see-bow-koo.

I suppose it's not exclusively Canadian history, but this* popped up on Facebook this a.m. and reminded me of the Klondike Big Inch Land Co. https://www.oklahoman.com/story/news/nation-world/2016/03/13/taking-stock-decades-old-deed-to-one-square-inch-of-canadas-yukon-territory-has-some-value/60686742007/  I don't think any of my older siblings were absentee landlords, but the buzz on the street was that a friend of my older brothers had a deed (?).

https://www.facebook.com/photo/?fbid=122226969422155666&set=a.122141150270155666  Apparently the Lone Ranger Atomic Bomb ring     "... contained a tiny sample of polonium-210... ."    I remember our high school physics teacher telling us the the radium (?) in our luminous watches might kill us in 2900 years.  [The number might be a bit off... but he definitely told us!! wink ]

I dunno if it's "history" per se, but a ballot with 214 candidates surely must be noteworthy on some level.   https://www.ctvnews.ca/politics/article/advance-polls-open-in-alberta-byelection-with-214-candidates-historic-blank-ballots/

When we were kids sitting in the back of my uncle’s panel truck (remember those?) we’d approach this tunnel and he’d yell,”DUCK” , so we did ….

Thanks for the ^^ tour.

We've been in the area [along Hwy #9 and PR 570] but alas no Wayne.*   sad

[Sold my trike 5 years ago, and I dunno whether a Grand Cherokee towing a SurfSide would do the 11 bridges road justice.]

Fwiw, I ree-wee, ree-wee like the town (?) sign:

* But, but, but, we've used the Finnegan Ferry and have been to the Torrington Gopher Museum. yes

Some music history that straddles the bordre/border ;-)

...it even encourages audience members to bring their guitars and banjos! (no music stands allowed ..?)

From a site called The Outdoor Guys >> my Facebook >> BHO.   [I guess since 1951 (?), Newfie history is Canadian history.]

A Piece of Newfoundland History, Close to Home ????

This incredible photo captures Cheryl’s grandfather, Malcolm Rogers, towing his home from Silver Fox Island to Dover during the resettlement days in Newfoundland.

It’s a well-known picture in our province’s history, but for us, it carries an even deeper meaning — it’s family. Dover, our hometown, became the new beginning for many who left their island homes behind, and this image is a reminder of the strength and determination it took to build a new life.

Sometimes history isn’t just found in books — it’s carried in our families, our stories, and even in photographs like this. ??

May be an image of 3 people and boat

What? Canada has a history? Forgive me, I'm from the lower for 48; we were barely taught our own history, let alone other people's.

Didn't George Washington throw a silver dollar across the Potomac River?

Was Davy Crockett at the Alamo?

Was Gen. Custer at Little Big Horn?
(just stuff we heard north of the border)

I knew one and half of those.  Besty Ross sewed the flag. Sacagawea  carried her baby across the Louisana Territory. General Custard cut his hair so as not to be recognized. Oh, wait, I didn't learn that until I was an adult. Ummm....

I have traveled a bit and it embarrasses me to admit, the rest of the world knows US history better than most US citizens. The average US citizen knows almost nothing about the rest of the world. You either learned it on your own, or in a special class in college. I've been to Vancouver and Banff, and other than it is intensely beautiful, all I know about Canada is it was more gracious about accepting our Conscientious Objecters during the Vietnam war than we are towards our southern friends and their plights. And your money was prettier than ours. Oh, and hockey pucks knock out teeth if you don't wear your face mask. I only know that because I dated a Canadian hockey player. Oh! And curling. He taught me about curling. Still don't get it, but I'm told it is fun.

I wondered why a band from Trawna* would name itself "Slocan".

BTW, that looks like my copy of the Humber River Valley Boys album, from the Seventies, the mandolin player** (r) is holding. Shoulda kept it. Someone called them the "Humber Ditch Boys".

* Toronto, but you may also say "Hogtown".

** Originally from Montreal.

We used to call the Humber River Valley Boys the Humble Liver Volley Balls. I still have that album as well as others. Used to see and hang out with them in the 70's when we were all playing full time. Brian Pickel just died recently. He was a great banjo player..both old time and 3 finger style.

Ive seen the Slocans a few times..great band. They have that distinct Toronto Hogtown bluegrass sound, similar to the Foggy Hogtown Boys and the various spinoffs, the Don Valley Drifters, the Barrel Boys, etc...kind of a bluegrass/stringband/oldtime band sound.
