Seems like grey and charcoal coloured uniforms are the thing nowadays,,in baseball too.

Edit: .... had the game on with sound off [Sat. Nite Blues, you know!!]  only saw the Cgy.-Edm. dust up to end the second period.  I wonder if it's too early to see what effect you-know-who's absence is having???   

Well, the TV guys are salivating all over themselves - the hyped up battle of Alberta finally resembled a bit of the 1980’s brawl-fests. Geez, you’d think they’ve been jonesing for the old DC style of hockey.
btw, did you catch the prelim to HNIC with Peplinski? He said he was never a fan of fighting, especially the staged premeditated types. From a guy in the middle of those 1980’s brouhaha’s. Hah....

Full-on "battle" mode in the broadcast booth, with constant replays of the goalie fight. Well, at least that made it interesting in that, if one or both of the backups had gotten hurt, an emergency goalie would have had to suit up.

At least Peplinski can be relatively well-spoken, having been a broadcaster and all. He was decent in the post-game show.

And the Habs took out the Panthers. Kovalchuk was a good pickup - at a bargain basement price, too. "Tortellini" and his Blue Jackets tomorrow.

One doesn't have to be a very astute observer to see that many of them have been doing it all along.... they're just too chicken-**** [or possibly just want to be acceptably P.C.] to be upfront about it the way you-know-who was.    But, as always, I think the listener/viewer should have the wherewithal to be able to sort the wheat from the chaff.

I didn't catch Peplinski's segment.   A few years ago Jets forward Chris Thorburn opined something akin to:  "Sometimes in the course of a game a guy just needs a punch in the face."   Given officiating deficiencies (?) I'm okay with that, but yes,    for the staged stuff.... like the Rittich-Smith buffoonery... nothing to do with "the course of the game."

Edit:  Paul, I don't know whether west-central MB is a bigger wasteland for blues or bluegrass.  We sometimes take in the Wpg. Blues and Barbecue festival in August.  Dave McLean has appeared at least 4 times locally in the last few years.  There's a local dude that is an entertaining bluesey performer, but ever since he was a complete dick**** about some local council stuff [he was a councillor at the time] I have as little to do with him as possible.

What about the "Savardian spin-o-rama"?   

I'm pretty sure [i.e "110%"]  Danny Gallivan coined the phrase to to describe Serge Savard's move to evade a forechecker.... but nowadays, I'm hearing more often that that it was coined in reference to Denis Savard.   

What does the expert   have to say on the matter?

Yes to Gallivan. As well as his “cannonading shot”.

Orr also did an "Orr-ian spinerama".  BTW, Orr was/is the best hockey player I've seen,, but McDavid comes very close - in regards to quick acceleration to another gear, and controlling the game.  It irks me that DC who had him for what?...one year? forever after rode on his coattails.

Owen, it was about Serge, not Denis. Gallivan coined the phrase way before Denis was ever in the NHL (another draft goof by the Habs, picking Wikenheiser instead of the obvious choice, Denis - what hockey expertise would you expect from a guy named Grundman? - sounds like someone Superman would fight). Scotty should have been given the GM position - the first of many management mistakes that wrecked a proud franchise.

Gallivan visited my high school to talk about careers. He was the greatest hockey broadcaster ever, imnsho. Way better than that Hewitt guy - boooooring! We had to suffer through Hewitt when the Ice Capades came to town and the Habs went on the road. "Of course the goal didn't count because the puck didn't went into the net." I've never forgotten that "fox pass" by Foster (a Wings-Leafs game in the late Fifties, as I recall). I became a hockey fan watching the old Canadiens on the b&w TV in the Fifties. (Boston was my second-favourite team because my first hockey sweater was a white Beantown one my parents gave me. They fixed that mistake with the second one. In those days our sweaters really were - heavy wool turtlenecks in team uniform designs.)

We have the Limestone City Blues Fest (and I have the Limestone City String Band - sporadically). One year I went to the big final concert, featuring Hubert Sumlin, who had been Howlin' Wolf;s guitarist in the old days. Well, show time and three white guys get up and play ... and play ... and play. Where's Hubert? Oh, wait, there's some dude sitting at the back. Finally he comes and sits up front and plays. But ... what's that guy in the white coat doing? Oh, geez, he's Hubert's medical attendant and he's - adjusting his oxygen!! Yeah, now we can see the tubes running to his nose. Well, the thrill of seeing the legendary Hubert Sumlin was immeasurably heightened by the prospect that ol' Hubert just might croak onstage!!!

...too bad it isn't a coin in general circulation; that way many more people would see it and just maybe talk/listen/learn a bit and hopefully reduce the us-them distinctions.    Personally I'd just as soon see Mssr.  O'R  on some of the few coins I do get to see/touch as a whale/caribou/bobcat/totem pole/musical ride/inukshuk/poppy [ooops, did I say that?]/etc.

It would have been even better if Willie had worn the CH in his playing days.  After all, Jackie Robinson's first pro baseball team was the Montreal Royals.

C'mon youse guys... If one didn't know better one might think you were thinking it's time for a lock, or at least a new/different thread re. hockey.... or whatever else has popped up on this one.     

Although there were quite a few lopsided games, the regular season of the North Central Hockey League has produced two apparently superior teams [Russell and Miniota-Elkhorn] ... the first playoff round has shunted the riff-raff to the sidelines, so what's left should be pretty good/entertaining.   

[Anyway... isn't it time for Chuck to start a thread about spring training? .... that with a modicum of luck could carry us thru to hockey's second season.]
