The teacher in the classroom next door to mine was Pat Keon, sister of Dave - an absolute super teacher (the Keons were an amazingly accomplished family). She knew a lot of the behind the scenes goings-on at Maple Cheese Gardens. I was on break when I heard of Ballard's death. When I told Pat, she said, "Now the real fighting begins." She was right. Ballard's greedy family members were all out for themselves. Ballard set the tone. He once removed the organ so he could squeeze in a few more seats ($$$).
Ya, I heard he gave most of his money to the Scott Mission on Spadina. Said his no-account kids got enough of his loot already,,, ‘course Yolanda was right in there too.
read Dick Beddoes', the long time sports reporter (deceased now) book,,, lots of Pal Hal stories.

It's "interesting" when previously untouchables suddenly become vulnerable - priests, cops who shoot first (the Toronto streetcar shooter - nine bullets), caregivers, now coaches.
It was always a wonder how rich and famous people were (still are) treated so differently, as if, because they had so much, we shouldn't take it away from them. Forget that.
Interesting indeed, Paul.... methinks there's a v-e-r-y strong correlation (?) between being untouchable and the lack of transparency [the light of day, public scrutiny, and all that.... and I suspect you know what I'm not going to mention as an example.
]
Edit: ...and aren't $$$ and/or fame just two of the "strategies" used to try to ensure the lack of transparency? How about the "jerking around" one gets from government and bureaucratic agencies? .... IMNSHumbleO, designed to make mere mortals give up from disgust and/or exhaustion. [OKay... enuff of this boring theoretical stuff....back to the salacious.... ]

All his nonsense is being done in the light of day, though.
....dunno, Paul.... I don't have enough info, but I'd be surprised if what we're seeing is "all his nonsense." Whether his stuff that we don't see is just more of the same, or more serious stuff ??? ..... wouldn't surprise me either way.
I think that for players and/or former players to bring up any coach's bad behavior, it would have to be pretty bad.... after all, gotta uphold "The Code." ![]()
Chuck... iffin they hassle you too much, just head a different direction. ![]()

".... some dark hollow where the sun don't ever shine" needn't be a bad thing. In '74, across the lake from YK [at Pine Point, a mining town since closed and "reclaimed" (?) ] I met my wife.... well, as a point of clarification, she wasn't my wife 'til almost a year later. I give/gave a
to the relatively long nights. [My one "shoulda" is I shoulda got across to YK when I had a relatively good opportunity.]

Geez, Chuck.... at this rate you'll soon have me thoroughly con-foosed. YT = Yukon Territory. YK = YellowKnife.
The all-knowing Google tells me that Audrey McLaughlin was from YT, but it doesn't mention that she was leader [either honourable OR dishonourable] of our federal opposition. In maintaining our "Off-Topic" path, I also see that we did have a female NDPer as leader of the opposition.... Nycole Turmel [in between Layton and Mulcair]. Neither my wife [the one from across the lake from YK] nor I have any recollection of having ever heard of her, so it's obviously true that one can learn sumptin' every day here on BHO.
Now, please... no more "politics"... I wouldn't want to have to get my wife to slap my wrist..... again!! ![]()

My alopogees, Owen. With all these airport codes (YYC, YYV, etc.) with “why’s” and now an abbreviation for the city of Yellowknife, I’m ready to just forget all my grade school “book-learning”. (hope Yorkton doesn’t have a big airport).
and to skirt (!) the politicks issue..... I give you this :

Apparently half a dozen years ago it was big enuff for a B-17. https://www.yorkton.ca/news/pdf/Airport-Open-House-Aug24-2013.pdf
[If one tries hard enuff there's a kinda segue back to the conduct of coaches: Gerry James coached the Yktn (junior) Terriers, and several other SJHL teams. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gerry_James My understanding [no personal experience] is that he was a bit "rough around the edges," and might (?) have gone beyond raising his voice. I wonder (?) how it might be viewed today.]
A pic I took at the airport seems to show some room for expansion, but I haven't been out to the airport since then.

Moving over one province from Saskabush, this Alberta farmer definitely had some intimidation methods in his playbook

Paul, does your use of "Wow." indicate that you're surprised? IF it does, it shouldn't. Lack of transparency and/or scrutiny of those in power resulting in abuse of that power is right up there next to death and taxes..... any and all agencies , not just sports [
].
Edit: Since we can't mention that dude that just resigned, it looks like we'll indeed just have to stay tuned..... waiting with bated breath for the next newsworthy (?) revelation (?).
