Another example of a version of a tune I had to learn immediately after first hearing it. This is based HEAVILY on Mary Z. Cox's rendition from her album "Vintage Banjo" (if you don't have it, get it), basically because I couldn't think of any way to improve upon it! My brother is on guitar.

Another fanstastic tune. Sounds wonderful!

Great -- barely distinguishable from the Mary Z. Cox version, and I mean that as a compliment. Did you just pick it up by ear or use tab she has in in of her tab books? In any case, sounds great.

Oh yes ! Are you clawing or up picking ?

It's clawhammer all the way, Darryl. And Dan, I learned it by ear. I'm not sure if she has the tab for Sally Ann available or not.
Thanks all for the kind words!

The shock of recognition! You pay a fine complement to Mary Cox's version. All by ear? Pretty good. I liked hearing the guitar on this version too, since it's played so softly on the Cox CD.
Yes, when I first heard this I had to have the CD, though I'm not skilled enough to try to play it.

Very nicely done. I personally like to hear a nice bright, crisp tone in a banjo, not too common a thing among clawhammer pickers anymore.

Nothing like old time Sally Ann- perhaps my favorite- very hypnotic when played a breakneck speed. You got a very pretty version!
