Nothing sloppy about that. Great tune, clean playing, nice sound, perfect laid-back tempo for a tune that could easily get out of hand.

Spent much of the weekend trying to learn this tune
as you played it (no small task!) It's going round and
round in me head! Thanks for posting it.

Some tunes have a sort of chug to them that is tough to explain in words, it's just in there or it's not. They are almost pure rhythm. But that's not it exactly. Melody as rhythm, like the relationship of energy and matter. It's all in here, in these few fleeting moments of Rebel Raid. Now I just have to learn this!

The playing was great! Both parts.
Now you just need to hit the woodshed on the production process.
(I should talk... I prefer to let Borchelt bust his head open on all
that digital recording stuff...)

Would it be possible to get a copy of this song from you in TEF?

This version seems to match the one notated and recorded in Jeff Titon's Old Time Fiddle Tunes of Kentucky book. It was recorded in 1937 by Alan Lomax from the fiddling of William H. "Bill" Stepp, a friend of the fiddler John Salyer. It's called Rebels Raid. A most pleasant piece to hear, Tom!

I loved this three years ago, and I still do. Fine picking!

Dang...wish I could play like that. If I did I don't think I would ever put my banjo down.
Guess I can take the strings of my banjo...put your tune on...move my fingers around
pluckin' thin air...and my ears would be overjoyed.
