My first song post. This is the song that inspired me to banjo, per Taj Mahal. I hope i've done it some justice here. 12" Ramsey Student gCGCE w/ a Snowball Blue mic into Audacity. Sorry, when I recorded this I didn't know about "Normalize" so the level is relatively low. Turn it up some.

Well done, Greg. I remember when the Taj Mahal album came out in 1969, his rendition of Colored Aristocracy really knocked me over. Another recording from that time was David Lindley's Johnson Boys. Both had a lot of understated but still prominent brush stroke that gave the performances a pronounced pulsating rhythm. That sound has been abandoned by most clawhammer pickers today, in favor of a more elegant but ultimately thinner approach. I think it is too bad, because there was more than enough room for both. Very lush playing.
