I wish you could hear Jackie Burgess' fiddle playing better on this tune, cause he's really great. He's a transplanted Alabamian now living in North Carolina and we are playing outside a dorm building at Mars Hill in June 2008. The slapping sound is my flip-flop. Ramsey fretless, aEACE.

I really respect this tune. Very hypnotic. What do ya think of the Camp Creek Boys version of this tune?- mind boggling to me! They sound like a drooling gang of head hunters running through the jungle- run!

The Camp Creek Boys were the real deal. I love them. They grew up with the Round Peak sound, so it's in their bones. Today, the music is being played by MIT and Stanford graduates who have never and will never taste moonshine or work with their hands. Fred Cockerham and Tommy Jarrell both made shine.
But you know, it's OK. While it's sad the old-timers who were weaned on this music are all gone, at least we're still playing the music today. Breakin' Up Christmas celebrates partying in a mountain tradition that feels and sounds, well, ancient.
