Genre: Old Time / Playing Style: Clawhammer and Old-Time
An old time fiddle tune I heard years ago from Art Rosenbaum. It's an old Irish reel that made it's way to Appalachia and Art described his version was from a banjo arrangement by Jim Lucas of a 'rare fiddle tune'. I play this one clawhammer style in 'sawmill tuning' (gDGCD) on my locally built White Swallow open back, and overdubbed some guitar.

Thanks for the comments Dave and Fred
Thanks Fred for the info on the tune - an Irish reel from Donegal. It must have found it's way into Appalachia via an old Irish fiddler (like so many other fine tunes). I first heard it from Art Rosenbaum many years ago and found that his version was from a banjo arrangement by Jim Lucas of a 'rare fiddle tune' .
Cheers

Thanks for the kind words Mark
I learnt this one out about 5 - 6 years ago from a recording by Art Rosenbaum, the great US folk music, bluegrass and old timey collector. It was his book in the 1960s (Old Time Mountain Banjo) that helped me to get started with clawhammer. Wasn't much around then and mostly had LPs which we'd slow down
Cheers
Rob

Working on this one now Rob. With fiddle, banjo and guitar, this one would go down well with an audience, a reel toe tapper.

A full, wonderful performance, Rob. It sounds like a tune I'd like to play, too!
