its sort of a wooden whyte laydie , the scallops allow the ring to have more clear space to vibrate in , im guna guess this has a nice bright plunk ..

Daniel and Tangle I thought I had responded to the first comment. Sorry. Must have had a senior moment. After more experimenting, I've decided that the rim scallops don't do anything noticeable, so I've stopped doing them. The biggest improvement was having the rolled brass tone ring on top of nails set in the rim.
