In answer to request, I created a setting to accompany Burl Hammons, at 80% full speed, from the cassette "The Diller Collection, Vol. 1, Old-Time Music of Pocahontas County, The Fiddling of Burl Hammons" Augusta Heritage Recordings 017.

TOTW 3/20/2020 Matokie Slaughter's "Big Eyed Rabbit" in F

Heard this rabbit song on the Bill Dillof CD (Dillof, Rice & the Cuyahogians). I just fell in love with it, learned it and here it is in gDGDE. The song originally titled "Big Eyed Rabbit" was from a Samantha Bumgarner 78 rpm recording.

From Melvin Wine's first record "Cold Frosty Morning" [pitch corrected] This recording is from Melvin Wine's recording "Cold Frosty Morning". The pitch was quite a bit sharp, so I adjusted it to the key of G.

1977 Chicago Folk Festival (Melvin Wine - fiddle, Carl Baron - banjo) This is a recording from the Chicago Folk Festival in the winter of 1977 and is from the NPR show "Folk Festival U.S.A.". I was unable to find any other internet sources for this festival save a few YouTube videos of other performers.

On the Friday of the 1982 Fiddle Tunes, in Port Townsend, WA, there was an acoustic concert; Melvin Wine, myself and Bob Carlin were featured. Pictures are at . Later, in the concert we were joined by Kenny Hall. Centrum, the organization that runs Fiddle Tunes, has given me permission to distribute recordings of the entire concert which I have been doing for the past few years.

I'm uploading this tune from the CD I made in 2000 called "Banjo Stuff". It's a test for a tune I plan to upload for my TOTW which is from an Augusta Heritage cassette which, while they gave me permission, they requested that it not be down loadable.

I learned this song from a recording of Earl McDonald's Original Louisville Jug Band (Atlanta, GA, March 30, 1927). I did notice that "Jugband" in not a Genre. Banjo Tuning: aDADE Style of finger picking: anything I had to do to get those notes. A parody of the song "Steamboat Bill". The recording on Yazoo "Ruckus Juice & Chittlins - The Great Jug Bands" of "Casey Bill" (should have been "Casey & Bill", but the original producers must have missed the "&") made me fall in love with Earl McDonald's songs and jug band style. Eventually I discovered "Clifford Hayes & the Louisville Jug Bands", volumes 1, 2 and 3 on RST Records (JPCD-1501-2, JPCD-1502-2 and JPCD-1503-2) with Earl in quite a few different bands, besides the one under his own name, including: “Dixieland Jug Blowers” and “Whistler and His Jug Band”, among others.

From the notes to my 2000 "Banjo Stuff" CD. Now we come to the tune I call the CRAZY DUSTY MILLER. The "crazy" part of the name comes from me. When I first heard this tune, I heard it out of phase, which resulted in this musical joke. In aEADE; with apologies to Armin Barnett.

Banjo tuning - gDGDE. This is the first time I've made a setting that's 1/2 clawhammer and 1/2 finger picked. I practiced with the track on the Clyde Davenport Field Recorders’ Collective CD, FRC104 and it was compatible. However, the speed I’m playing this is only about 75-80% of the tempo that Clyde played on the fiddle. I can’t handle full speed yet.

In gCGce. I've been obsessed with this tune played on the banjo, since playing with my friend Barbara last summer. I have played the tune on the fiddle, for years, but not on the banjo. Influenced by the recording of the Mississippi Possum Hunters https://www.slippery-hill.com/recording/last-shot-got-him
