First tune recorded on my new Prust Tackhead. I'm lovin' this banjo! Played out of "Double-A" tuning.

Country blues classic by Skip James, which I've set on the banjo [double-c tuning]. Hope you like the Tradesman's ring.

Great tune I learned from Vermont fiddler Katie Trautz, who caught it from WV fiddler Jimmy Triplett at Augusta one summer. BrendanD shared a sound file of Melvin Wine playing a vey similar version, so p'raps through Katie and Jimmy I'm a couple degrees away from Mr. Wine! I'm in "Old G" on the nylgut-strung Stewart Universal Favorite (gDGDE), and Katie's on the fiddle.

Classic Libba Cotten tune, which I've done clawhammer on the Tackhead on a day when it's almost 50 degrees in Vermont in March!!!! I guess I should get myself outside..........

Robert Johnson classic, played in A on my son's Gretsch "Wild West Sweethearts" toy guitar. Sounds way better on head-phones or out of decent speakers than on computer speakers. (But what doesn't?)

Richmond, a fiddle tune my wife Alice caught from VT fiddler Mark DiStefano. It's a bit different than the version played by Bruce Molsky on "Contented Must Be." This is a mid-tempo version for my banjo class.

Medley of two tunes learned from Tom Mackenzie up here in VT. Recorded a while back, but I still like 'em.

JP Nestor and Norman Edmonds recorded the classic version in 1927, and many others have covered it since, although it seems to have become more of a staple in bluegrass playing than old-time. That said, Big Hoedown also did a great version. Played on the Tackhead in Open E (open G down a step and 1/2).

Cover of Robert Johnson's great tune. Playing with a brass slide on the Prust Tackhead, which holds up real well to a heavy metal slide, much to my surprise and pleasure.

Slow version of this current fave around the sessions. People like it slow and the Prust helped out. Double C on the tackhead. Takes me about 15 seconds to get going. Sorry...........
