Though maybe you can't tell, I worked pretty hard to get this recorded so I could have a song on my profile. I had to use head phones as a mic so to get it loud enough I had to attach them directly to the head of the banjo. It gives it an old timey sound, but I definitely need to get a better mic. I also planned to sing to the song, but found recording it cleanly hard enough. This is the compilation of 2 and 1/2 weeks playing the banjo. Enjoy!

I played this music with a sort of bouncy irishy rythem, which may or may not be correct, but I liked the sound of it played that way. Hope you all like it.

My Gold Tone 5 String Cello Banjo! This is Tom Arri's arrangement of this song. I had fun with it. The first recording I made was a lot slower tempo and with the bass sound of the banjo and my deeper voice sounded like someone had slowed a record down. I like it with this tempo a lot better.

I really wanted to record something new, so I did this with vocals because I thought it would be easy. Hopefully my voice has a place in Bluegrass where it wouldn't in Pop Music or a Broadway Show. The slow speed is due to me topping out at about 130BPM. I cheated and layed down the voice track separate from the banjo track. Hope you like it.

I played this song like this for my kids at a "banjo concert" that I put on for them. The first part is pretty dry with just the chord progression, but it really reaches out and whacks you upside the head when the melody kicks in.

This arrangement is from the tab on this site. I learned the song early on, but just played the choke. Lately I looked at it again and started playing it with the shave and a hair cut power chord which I think sounds cool.

This was played on my new "Gold Tone Plucky" travel banjo. The playing has some big errors in it, but I wanted to share it anyway since you can hear my kids in the background in the beginning and it had such a cool slice of life feel to it that I wanted to save it. Hope you all like it.

I played this with vocals as a video, I like the way my voice works better with my banjo capo'd in C.

This song was tough to learn and I'm still working on it to a degree. I learned it for fun, challenge and enjoyment of the music. I'm posting it on here for people to enjoy the music and nothing more or less than that.

I have whistled this tune since I was eight years old. I love the tune, but have to reiterate that I have no political or cultural intent beyond liking this tune. I intend to learn "The Battle Hymn of the Republic" and play it along with this song like Mike Gregory does with it on his web page. I can hear improvement in this latest version compared to the first recording I made. I broke the rythm on this recording to put some feeling into the tune.

This song is pretty hard to get down. This take is as good as I'm going to get for now. A big crowd pleaser.

As I began recording my daughter came up and wanted to ask me something before she realized I was trying to record. She stood and waited looking and waiting the whole time, which usually causes me to fail to get a clean recording. If you wait until the very end you'll hear the answer to her question. This is a great song and as fast is I can play it is in my opinion about as fast as it should be played. Soon I'll attempt to learn some of the other breaks. This and FMB are the arrangements from my Janet Davis Ultimate Banjo Song Book.

I waited to learn the first verse of this song until I felt I was ready and I think it came out pretty well.

This is my own arrangement albeit simple. I was noodling around and Free Fallin' popped out. I didn't do a slick job on it, but wanted to get the feel that is in this take so I'm just sucking it up and posting it as is.

This is Grandfather's Clock. I wanted to learn this song to get the lead in lick and work with harmonics. It is a lot of fun to play. Hope you enjoy it.

I am just really excited about this song and because I'm still in the middle of learning it, I had to resort to a couple of tricks to get it recorded, but I think it sounds pretty good.
