I learned to play BlackBerry Blossom in this style when I was in Jamaica a couple of years ago. I learned it on my little Baby Taylor travel guitar, and adapted it to the banjo when I got back home. It is supposed to be slow and synchopated (like most of life in Jamaica). Try it... It's not easy hitting the notes clearly at this speed - and keeping the synch going throughout the song. You will notice some chord differences and the range is much broader than the traditional version. Pop a Red Stripe, put on your bikini, and enjoy. (I have heard it said that if you have never seen Al Price in his bikini holding a Red Stripe beer you are just letting the best in life pass you by... LOL...)

Kind of a back and forth between finger picking guitar and banjo... Sounds kinda like buegrass parlor music.

In a recent visit to Walla Walla Washington and then over to Missoula Montana I was inspired by the land and esecially how the Montanans seem to be so much at peace with it, not at all fighting it or trying to take it over en mass. This song is a reflection honoring some of the native inhabitants of the land (thus only one "L" at the end of the title), and how they are as resilient as the the land, returning from near extinction as a tribe in the late 1800s, and crushing poverty in the 1960s, to a strong community today. To my Native American friends... The Spirit, eternal; The buffalo, slow; and for you the Earth will be patient. Tim

Just bought a new arch top Jazz guitar... Had to try it out. Takes almost 2 minutes to get to the banjo part - be patient. Oh and be kind... My feelings are like a fragile flower (LOL). The title is a reference to Meriwether Lewis and William Clark. This riff makes me think of visiting the area where the Walla Walla River meets the Columbia around the Wallula Gap in Southeastern Washington.

This is a test of my new Nechville Meteor electric banjo. This practically right out of the case just as it arrived. Just a little touch up tuning, and only moving the pickup selector knobs enough to set the volume a little. No time to get used to the neck or inlay position markers. Didn't monkey with the little feedback supression mute or anything... Just 1: out ofthe box 2: out of the case 3: tune 4: record. This song (if you can call it that) started out to be "When the Roll is Called Up Yonder" as an intonation test, then kind of mutated into a slppy version of "Leaving Cottondale" . The banjo plays really easy and the compound radius seems easy to get used to. BTW - It's only fitting that Al Price facilitated my getting the Meteor and Al taught me to play Leaving Cottondale... Nice test recording. I can't wait until I figure out all the nuances of the Meteor. Any advice on set up is gladly accepted.

This is a song we are working up... Dont have harmony vocals yet, and the instrumentals and transitions are probably not set in stone but I think it sounds pretty cool. We learned this song in Jamaica. It is an old Jimmy Cliff (Reggae artist) song.
