Plectrum Banjoist |
Both my bands, Celluloid Cowboys and 1928, have full schedules in the State of Washington this summer. If you missed us at the Seattle Folklife Festival, we'll be (so far) at the Fremont Fair in Seattle on June 21st at 11.30 AM, Ezra Meeker Days in Puyallup on Sunday June 22nd at 1 and 3.30 PM, the Tall Ships Celebration and The 4th of July Freedom Fair in Tacoma July 3-6 on various stages at various times, the Yakima Folklife Festival both Saturday and Sunday the 12th and 13th of July , Wilkeson Days on Saturday July 19th, and probably at Bonney Lake Days on the 16th and 17th, although the last hasn't jelled yet. We played at the Tumbleweeds Festival in Richland last year, but haven't heard back from them yet.
I have to mention my favorite festival so far this year: the Florence Winter Folk Festival down in lovely Florence, Oregon last Feburary. Hal Wiener, the organizer, arranged for us 1928 people plus spouses to stay in a big beach house with a spectacular view of the ocean.
After our appearance, we took second place in the audience popularity poll, even though it was our first time at this event and our spot was early Sunday morning with people trickling in as the show was going on. We got a standing ovation! That always feels good. The folks in the audience wanted us to play on, but we had to make way for the next act.
I'm looking forward to playing there again.

Son of a Navy man - traveled all over the country. Finally settled in the NW, found a job as a toolmaker. Play and sing oldtime jazz and pop music with band "1928", Hollywood cowboy music with band "Celluloid Cowboys", hapa-haole Hawaiian music with "Beachcomber Bill and the Cocoanotes". Play banjos of different kinds, but plectrum is my favorite. Also guitar, mandolin, bass and others, sing lead and parts. Love my children, love music, love life!
