Credit to Roger Banister of Columbus, Indiana for agreeing to give a nine year old lessons. The first gig I remember playing was at age 10 at Bill Monroe's park in Bean Blossom, Indiana, backed up by a Louisville band called Bluegrass Alliance -- a shy teenager named Vince Gill was on guitar. At the much older age of 12 I worked my first recording session in Nashville that included, among others, Vassar Clements and D.J. Fontana. From that time through high school I performed regularly at the Lincoln Jamboree in Kentucky, the Illinois Opry, Renfro Valley, Kentucky, The Little Opry in Nashville, Indiana, at Beanblossom, Indiana, and several bluegrass festivals in the Midwest including a performance with the New Grass Revival at a festival near Mammoth Cave, Kentucky. During my senior year of high school I played banjo, guitar and pedal steel guitar with a country-rock band out of Indianapolis called Music City Express. We fronted shows for numerous Nashville stars including performances on Ernest Tubb's radio show in Nashville. In college, I was a member of Louie Popejoy's band and then later toured with Buckskin. Since college I have played on occasion with various types of bands including Mixt Company out of Nashville, TN. I recorded with them on their Album, "A Personal Touch" released in 2001. I played this summer (2016) at a high school in China where my daughter was teaching English. In 2017, I performed for students she was teaching in Taiwan.
