History with a Banjo

Friday, February 12, 2016

Well, I got to thinking today about how long I've been chasing this thing called Banjo. It all started about 1984, heard Earl for the first time, completely blew me away, the tune was "Earl's breakdown. The next day I found a Gold tone arch top for sale along with Earl's book, bought them and commenced to teaching myself to pick. I've had an on/off again realitionship with the Banjo. Hit it hard for 3 years, then the Navy moved me and I sold the Goldtone. Banjo was out of my life for the next 11 years. Picked up a Morgan-Monroe, after getting it set up, took a few weeks on my part, tore it up for another 3 years, got married and had once again sell the Banjo. Another 4 years passed before I aquire a Deering Deluxe this time. Had a 4 year run then the divorce caused my to once again sell the "jo". Well, another page has turned and I again have a banjo in my life. A Hohner, not much after the Deering, but it's a start. This time around there will be no sale, only upgrade to a Deering Maple Blossom. ...someday. So I figured I have 10 years of picking over 32 years, man how time flies...... Thanks for listening Chris Add Comment

First heard Earl in 82, thought that was the coolest sound I ever heard, got a Gold Tone and his book and commenced to teaching my self. Got good enough to play on stage with the Navy Band, and other places that summer. After I left the Navy in 88 the banjo playing also stopped And now I am lucky enough to be able to return to picki'n......happy !!!
