I've played the guitar (electric and acoustic) for years, but always gravitated towards old time, traditional folk music, and Civil War-era music. In 2003 I was working on the NC Outer Banks. My supervisor left to become director of the Ralph Stanley Museum in VA. For a going-away present we bought her an entry-level banjo. This inspired me, so I tried to learn clawhammer on an old garage-sale banjo of my dad's, but wound up with more of an old-time two-finger style or something. I now live in Fayetteville NC...about a year ago I started an old time jam session at the museum where I work. It's been a wonderful learning experience for me, getting to play regularly with people like Ken Jackson and Marvin Gaster...not to mention a whole host of fine musicians from the area. I don't know that my banjo playing has evolved a whole lot, but it's been great fun!
