A masterclone that was given to me. Modeled after a Granada.
My favorite players are too numerous to mention, but I am partial to good driving bluegrass banjo. Earl, Ralph, Don, JD, Sonny, Kenny Ingram, Terry Baucom, Wynn Osborne and Jim Mills are obvious favorites. I love Marc Pruett's playing. In fact, if I had to pick a favorite, it might be him. I'm glad to see young players like Jeremy Stephens, Josh McMurray and Evan Ward out there as well as some others. Jens Kruger is amazing and so is Scott Vestal. The list goes on. Raymond Fairchild, Sammy Shelor, Tom Adams, Alan Munde, John Hickman, Carrol Best, Bobby Thompson, Todd Taylor, Doug Dillard, Bill Emerson, Ned Luberecki, Rooster Ruley, Steve Huber, Cia Cherryholmes and all the players on Cuppa 'Jo are all worth listening to. I know I'm forgetting some. I like melodic style and even classical, but not nearly as much as "Scruggs Style."

I'm learning to play the 5-string banjo in the bluegrass style so that I can play for the church where I pastor. I have heard a lot of good gospel songs played on the banjo and I hope to be able to use them for special music in our services. I'm thankful that there is some good material to learn from out there. I'm starting with the bluegrass standards until I get the technique down, but I'm hoping to build my gospel repertoire soon. If you're ever in the Ventura area, get in touch and maybe we can get together and play. I'm always eager to learn from other banjo pickers.
