I started playing banjo in a local band along with my brother Jeff Brown and friends, Duane Compton and Mac Puckett in the late 70's. We called ourselves "The Richlands Bluegrass Boy's" named after our hometown of Richlands Va. We played locally together several years before Wayne Taylor joined the group around 1985, who later went on to join Blue Highway, and I might add with outstanding success. My brother joined Larry Sparks and the Lonesome Ramblers in 1993 who also has had a good ride in the music field. Duane and Mac each formed their own groups about the same time. Then I started playing guitar in a country/rock group called 40 west and continued through out most of the 1990's in that group before going back to my bluegrass roots with the banjo. I now play with the group The Bluegrass Kinsmen most of the time, and still get out and do some dates with my brother Jeff. I have one son, Noah and one nephew Austin, who also are playing the guitar, bass and drums, hoping they will continue to play and get as much enjoyment out of it as I have since I was 9 years old.
