Played guitar poorly for 40 years. Picked up banjo in 1998 after attending a jam where there were several hundred guitar players and little else, standing around in a circle strumming chords. Stopped after 1 year as I just wasn't getting it as well as I thought I should. Didn't pick up the instrument again for 5 years, until chemotherapy made my fingernails fall apart. Finally making progress, but as I have no natural musical ability it is by much practice and repetition. My goal is to make Purty good someday. Well that, and to play a banjo standard flawlessly at a jam. They clap now, but I know how badly I missed it.
