Dave "Tex" Orlomoski is the name. I started out playing banjo over 35 yrs.ago and it was my main instrument for 10 yrs. or so. My main musical hero/influence was and still to this day is Fred Pike, in my opinion a much overlooked early bluegrass picker in New England. My brother ended up taking lessons from Fred when we were young and I got bitten by the bluegrass bug by the age of 10 . Unfortunately for me , Fred moved to Maine just about the time I was old enough to start taking lessons from him and so we had to struggle to find someone to show me how to pick. Since we had my brothers guitar around the house I started fooling around with that and it sure has come in handy for me. I finally started to get somewhere when I was taking banjo lessons from Mike Kropp and I thought my banjo career was on it's way when he asked if I'd like to join his band on bass and so I started to get away from the banjo a little. The next thing I knew, I was playing guitar/bass in another band and eventually went on to playing mandolin also. In the last 10 yrs. or so the banjo has sat in it's case only coming out if someone needs a fill in picker. My picking has gotten about as rusty as my banjo strings but I still get it out and play every once in awhile. I have a 1934 Recording King and it's been my only banjo for the last 15 yrs. At this time I play mostly guitar and mandolin but the banjo was what got me started.
