Performed and recorded with "Northern Lights" for 17 years. Past Bluegrass Director for Banjo Camp North, and was a music director of Old Time Music Camp North. Writes an occasional column for Banjo Newsletter called "Tunes from Tug Hollow" and also write instrument reviews for BNL. Currently plays with "The Pegheads" , "Shades of Blue", and "Southern Rhode" As a member of Northern Lights for 17 years, Mike has recorded CD's on Flying Fish, Red House and Prime CD. Since the 1960's, he has performed and recorded with artists ranging from Vassar Clements & Peter Rowan, to Don McLean and Jonathan Edwards. Was staff producer in 1970 for Columbia Records and produced Pete Seeger. Worked as a studio session musician on banjo and guitar during the 1970's & 1980's for several record labels, etc. Mike is fluent in all styles of five string banjo, ranging from folk, old time, and classic style to traditional Scruggs and modern new grass styles. He has taught banjo for over forty years, and he has participated in workshops at festivals across the country.
