I've been born and bred in belfast and one night in the early 1990's while watching rosanne on a friday night ( i was allowed to stay up late on a friday night, progressive parenting or what ? ) an advert for the new vauxhall tigra came on, my father had just got a new tv with the astounding function of 'teletext' on it, so natuarally a young annoying boy as i was, would have the subtitles on for every show and to my amazement, it also subtitled adverts with no talking in them. The soundtrack to this tigra ad was 'fiesta' by the pogues, i remembered it because i liked it. Fast forward a few years more, 'fairytale of new york' is playing in a shopping center when i'm going with my brother and my dad, "Who sings that song daddy?", "The pogues, i think" says he, i think i like the pogues. fast forward several more years on and i see a pogues cd in a charity shop for 75p, it has fairytale of new york and fiesta on it, I buy it. That same cd also had 'the irish rover' on it with the dubliners, i borrow some dubliners cds from the library. Fast forward a few years again. The Open House Festival is playing in Belfast, I go in search of irish ballads i may not have heard before, I meet folks who suggest that if I'm into the rowdy pogues and dubliners tunes bluegrass may be to my liking aswell, i catch a bluegrass gig, Dirk Powel and the whoevers, love it. I go in search of more bluegrass trying to convert my friends ( relatively unsuccessfully ) but fall in love with every instrument i see at the gigs. fast forward again and as a lovely gift, my girlfriend at the time buys me a banjo as a thakyou gift for something, I don't know what but i said you're welcome and grabbed hold of the banjo, which it turns out, I loved alot more than her. Which brings me to here. An aspiring banjoist(!?) with bad guitar playing habits messing with his 4&1/2 string mojo. Hello everybody, my name's reido.
