I'm the new caretaker of Sam Tidwell's 1929 RB Studio King. I met Sam when I was a young teenager and took lessons from him for many years when he lived in Florida, up until he became ill and moved back to Rhode Island. I remember Sam playing this Studio King and a 1925 TB3 conversion ( I have this banjo too). On the wall in Sam's living room was a picture on Don Reno playing this banjo in the 50's in what looks like King Records Studio. When Sam moved back up north, he sold this banjo to a mutual friend who then later sold it to Barry Palmer. At the same time, Sam gave me some cool trinkets including some strings and an old uke capo that he used which made a lot of people cringe because the spring wrapped around the neck an roasted the finish, but Sam didn't care in the slightest. Fast forward to yesterday, I had the opportunity to complete the full circle moment (note the picture of the strings next to the banjo.) As the archived post mentioned, its a strong archtop.
