I have a Tokai banjo that I've owned it since 1983. These were Japanese made and sold internationally as the original Gold Star's. It's basically a good Mastertone copy. It could be a little louder but I get surprised by how good the tone is. Love to get a Stelling sometime but or now this one is fine.
Favorite Bands/Musicians:
All time favourite banjo player is Tony Trischka - the drive, style and sheer outragousness of his playing. Bands: Seldom Scene, Hot Rize, Claire Lynch and Front Porch String Band, Gillian Welch, Peter Rowan - Old and In the Way, Foggy Mountain Boys (of course), Stanley Brothers (ditto), etc.

Been playing banjo on and off since 1982. Have recently come back to playing abit more in the last few years, but finding time and people to play with is the problem. I also play guitar - rock, jazz, finger style and flatpicking; a little mando. I like to sing, harmonies with others. generally like to play when I can. Oh yeah, I also play rhythm banjo in a dixieland jazz band (The Dixie Legends!) I still don't really believe that I do this; and I cheat - I play a tenor tuned to an open Bb ie the same shapes as a five string.
