I was taught guitar by my grandfather starting at 10 or 12 years old. Played guitar all my life, but have always been fascinated by banjo from watching Earl Scruggs on Beverly Hillbillies and the Darlings (Doug Dillard) on Andy Griffith, as well as Roy Clark who always looked like he was having a great time pickin' and grinnin'. We frequently went to Branson, Missouri, for vacation and I found nothing as exciting as the bright picking of the banjo. I finally bought a Goodtime open-back in 2004 and started learning three-finger bluegrass. I was never a good finger picker on guitar. I was slightly better on banjo (three fingers instead of four), but struggled. I have since switched to clawhammer and am loving it. I am interested in clawgrass (still love bluegrass and really like Mark Johnson's sound), folk, cowboy, jazz, classical, and myriad other genres that I conglomerate into the genre of "good music".
