New Strings for 4 String Cello Banjo

Tuesday, July 14, 2009

Hi Cello Banjo Lovers,

I just discovered some great new strings for those of you playing the 4 string cello banjo.  GHS makes ball end classical guitar strings that have the length we need.  No more tying knots or hoping the nylon loop doesn't break!

For the 4th string try GHS B6S

             3rd string     -        B5S

             2nd string    -        B4S

I still use a nylgut diam 79 for the first string but may try a GHS B3S soon.

All the Best,

Marcy

Marcy first took up the banjo at age 12 after getting a 5 string banjo and the Earl Scruggs instruction book as a Christmas present. Her future career came to an abrupt halt, however, when her parents took the banjo back to the music store because it made too much noise and the family lived in a tiny house. Her next venture was a tenor banjo that didn't sound all that good but it was a beauty! That banjo was completely covered in pink MOT (Mother of Toilet seat). Marcy loved that banjo and carried it everywhere despite the laughter. Years later she added a Banjo Uke to her collection with the help of Bob Smakula. Then she added a tango banjo, also from Bob Smakula. Marcy learned of the 4 string cello banjo from Mike Seeger and began to play with gusto quickly becoming the world's foremost expert. Now the brilliant and ground breaking Gold Tone Company is making cello banjos and these banjos are causing quite a stir in the banjo community. "What the world needs now, is love, sweet love..." is a good song but there's something else the world needs....bigger banjos! And lots of them!
