I've been listening to bluegrass most of my life and have been playing the Banjer on and off since 1996. I never was very serious about practicing and the like as I was always distracted with school, the military (Coast Guard Reserves) and whitewater kayaking. In the spring of 2006, I decided that enough was enough I needed to get serious about music. As a motivational tool, I invested in a Deering Sierra (upgraded from a Goodtime). Additionally, I began taking lessons from Banjo Bob Altschuler (great decision for sure).
