I've always liked the sound of the banjo but had never known anyone who played. In the 70's, I was at a party at a friends house and Bill Kelly, the lead singer of the Buoys, showed up. He pulled out a banjo and I was bitten by the bug. I leaned to my friend and said....I will do that someday. I got my first banjo in 1980 but it was a real struggle to learn on my own. Many years later, I had the pleasure of meeting Tony Trischka. I think the most amazing thing about his concert was that he played some Beatles songs. Wow, never thought that was legal!!! I spoke to him after the concert and he drew a picture on the songbook I bought. It was then that he said something that changed everything for me. "Find your own style". I was trying so hard to be Earl that it was becoming frustrating to play. Well today I have a Beatles song posted on the Hangout and I'm having fun with the banjo. Who knows, maybe someday I'll be able to post a Metallica song. Sorry Earl.
