My dear friend Jim Rivell Sr. passed away last Wednesday after a courageous battle with cancer. Jim was a banjo icon in the Philadelphia area and in the Mummers community. We were band mates in the Fralinger String Band back in the 1970's and 80's and in more recent years with the Gloucester City String Band. I am going to greatly miss his encouragement and musical wisdom, the many laughs we've shared, and our long talks about string bands, banjos, music and life. And, of course, playing music together. You sir, will be missed. Rest in Peace, my friend.

I was born and raised in Philadelphia. My passion for banjos started by way of my involvement in the great tradition of Mummery. I play plectrum style and am presently a member of the Quaker City String Band and several other non-Mum bands. My first love in banjos is the Bacon & Day Silver Bell.
