Well it seems like I've reached the limit of my abilities. I just can't seem to improve on the very basics I've learned to this point. I've been trying to learn with others but that is not working well for me so I'll have to go back to one on one instruction if possible.
Sometimes I get very discouraged others times it's just frustrating to the point where I don't want to look at a banjo. I need to do something different to keep enjoying it.

I've been a career firefighter for 20 years and have no plans to retire. Divorced and now living with my girlfriend in western NY. Picked up a slightly used banjo a few years ago, after the divorce and just kinda floundered with it for a while and now have a teacher heading me in the right direction. I've loved bluegrass since I was a kid and always wanted to play the banjo so here I am. Learning, trying, making noise/music and having fun. I can't read music so I'm learning by ear and tab sometimes. I have no plans to play for an audience it's purely just for me. I will bring the banjo to my buddies place and play at the campfire maybe. His son taught himself to play guitar and is now working on the mandolin so that might be fun.
