Patient enough and passionate about 'optomizing' the often unknown inherent sound qualities during set-up and rebuild. I normally find most banjos are simply waiting for some nerd to liberate their potential. Repairs and some supplies can also be found here. // U.S. ex-pat + vet. // ......more detail for the interested: A historical point that may be of interest to a few folks is that when this member began BHO in 2003 there accordingly followed a number of postings under a different username than the ''banjoT1'' username of today. It is my opinion that 'way back then' there was an obvious demeanor of negative postings and personal attacks that was sufficient justification for several very well regarded and experienced voices to terminate their BHO participation. Although I was not one of those, nonetheless I ceased to participate on this website for several years, thus, all previous postings were apparently expunged automatically. Back in the earlier career days, I was a designer/engineer/builder of custom millwork/woodwork/contract office furniture/interactive museum displays....and sometime sculptor. I began fondling the banjo situation in 1974 then the commitment faded but was re-energized in 2003 [life has many paths]. Over the past 20 years I've extensively studied and experimented with mechanics of banjo construction and assembly, physics of sound (i.e., ferreted out a library of published research), attributes of playability and optimal banjo set-ups, and effects of materials, designs and parts choices. Although education, career choice, fabrication experience, and existing workshop would suggest that I ''make'' banjos - I do not. Rather, the shop ''Banjotone.com'' [no website yet] provides complete banjo disassembly, rebuilding and realignment, repairs (catastrophic and otherwise), as-new set-ups, ''optimization'' set-ups (yes, ''optimization'' is a real thing), parts replacement and upgrades, modifications, ring-rim machining, finishing, refretting, spiking, etc., etc. In-stock items include banjos from student to professional grade, string sets that include Stelling, National, and Straight Up. Other banjo parts would include heads, tailpieces, bridges, picks, tuning machines, and sundry other items. In the past, Banjotone.com was also an authorized Stelling dealer but in addition offered Gold Star and Saga/Rover banjos to include a limited selection of used banjos of various brand names. The principal (Canadian) region of patrons includes British Columbia, Alberta, and Saskatchewan. With respect to the true definition of the word ''luthier'', I do not fancy myself as a luthier, rather, more accurately I am a banjo ''technician'' or banjo ''mechanic''. And, due to my modest skill level as a banjo player I do not provide 'lessons' however I am very willing and pleased to help new players to get started including re-setting-up their banjo that was never set-up correctly at the outset when manufactured or as assumed to be properly set-up when acquired from their retailer of choice or on-line flogger [slang no doubt]. By the way, I welcome any communications from veterans including those from the 18th Airborne Corps, Fort Bragg, North Carolina.
