Buddy the wonder dog

Thursday, June 25, 2009

At left is "Buddy" the wonderdog paitiently waiting for the selling day to be over at the Appalachain String Band Festival in Clifftop WV.  Buddy especially likes to be walked by girls at these festivals.  Guess he's smarter than he looks?  'Ukeman" is under the canopy.

Sorry to report that Buddy has passed on to that big string band in the sky.  I hope he's found a cute lady to escort him around. We dug up one of his many buried treasures just the other day - an old leather glove.

I started with a flea market aluminum pot no-name around 1990. 1st old banjo was a Lyon & Healy "Mystic." Rarest banjo ever had was a "Libby Bros." Most expensive was a Bart Reiter Grand Concert internal resonator. Took me a while to settle in on lighter banjos with a 12" pot as being what I prefer. Started repairing and restoring banjo ukes in the early 1990's. My personal instrument is an altered Ludwig Wendell Hall. A prior owner of this banjo by the name of "STEVE" had his name inlaid in the side of the pot in rhinestones. Now it's MY name! Just returned from a banjo building camp at Warren Wilson College in Black Mountain NC. Built a Pisgah Dobson Rambler with Pisgah owner Patrick Heavner. Latest personal acquisition is a Lange long-scale banjo uke, "The White Swan" is now restored and quite the showpiece. Need to post pics
