After 4 months of being a banjo player again, and 4 months of being a BHO member, I have decided to "downgrade" my profile skill level from "Purty Good" to "Novice." I don't think I am being too hard on myself here. This is why:
BHO has really opened my eyes to a number of things I know I want to learn. Given the skill level of many clawhammer players here, I don't think I can really justify calling myself "Purty Good." In fact, I think it will be an interesting goal for me to define what "Purty Good" is for me and set up a plan to get there.
That said, my banjo goals don't really center on improving skill. In fact, that is goal #3 for me. Goals #1 and #2 are to play with others more often and learn more tunes. That is happening.
In other news, it looks like I will be doing a Frenzy Brothers reunion this Sunday. I will be driving to Eaton Rapids to play with Dennis and Jim. That should be fun. I'll take a camera and do a blog entry when The Frenzy Brother Ride Again.
I am still really enjoying the playing with Bob, and it looks like we will head to Clifftop together. So my progress toward goals #1 & #2 is coming along.

My Instruments:
I play clawhammer banjo, as well as flatpick some guitar and string bass. I love country fiddle tunes and songs along the lines of the 1920s and 1930s "old-time" and "hillbilly" recordings by The Skillet Lickers, The Carter Family, Uncle Dave Macon, Earl Johnson, The Stripling Bros, etc. I'm not actively playing banjo these days, and my presence here is kind of inactive. I'll always keep my banjo, though, and you can bet I'll be back here some day.
