A Sad Day

Friday, November 21, 2008

Yesterday morning, November 20, 2008, my mother-in-law, Christine Clemmons, went home to be with the Lord. Parkinson's Disease had ravaged her body, severe arthritis took it's toll on her muscles and joints, but nothing could quell her sense of humor or her spirit. She was all but blind, yet she saw more than most of us. She was nearly deaf, but always ready and willing to listen. She was constantly wracked with pain, but she never complained.

At 10 a.m. yesterday morning her battle with life ended. A look of peaceful bliss graced her face and she knew her ultimate destination. She is now walking with the Lord. Walking without her wheelchair or walker. Using her hands unencumbered for the first time in many years. Seeing and hearing clearly. Singing and rejoicing with the angels and those who went on before.

While we miss her terribly, and always will, we wouldn't bring her back for anything. Though she was my mother-in-law for only four short years she has made a permanent, indelible impression in my life and I'm eternally grateful to God for having granted me the privilege of knowing her.

Sunday, November 23, would have marked 55 years of marriage to my father-in-law, Rev. Harlon Clemmons. Only time will reveal the toll that this loss will have on him. I ask prayers of comfort for him from anyone who reads this blog.

    Rest in peace, Christine, March 4, 1930 - November 20, 2008.

Born and raised in central Ohio to a country music singin' mother and a bluegrass pickin' and lovin' father. Dad plays guitar, banjo, mando, fiddle, piano, dulcimer and most anything else that doesn't play him first. From him I got my desire to play various instruments including guitar, bass and manolin. I've recently added banjo to that list and I'm playing my fingers to the bone to become proficient enough to call myself a banjo picker as well.
