NEFFA this weekend

Friday, April 25, 2008

Off to NEFFA (New England Folk Festival) near Boston to do some performing and jamming (of course!). Tonight I am playing a fiddle/banjo duets workshop with Jim Bowman (him of the largest banjo collection in the world!) which should be fun. My twin brother John (yes I have a twin) is east from California, doing some computer work and he and I will drive up together after I pick him up in Connecticut. We will be hanging with our old friend Rick Lee for some fun games and soup! Hope to see some of you there!

I've been playing OT banjo since the late 70's in S. California (I played fiddle with Old Mother Logo/All woman stringband), learning lots of banjo licks from Eddie Lowe and Al Hart among others-Mainly a fiddle player, I play the banjo more like a fiddle player and have some 'celtic" sounds in my playing influenced by my Scottish Guitarplaying husband Allan Carr's interesting chords over the years! Recorded a blend of Celtic (Scottish) and Old Time music in the 80's as Hadden Rothfield and Carr(3 albums/vinyl!), a recording of Traditional Scottish Melodies (1991), Rude Girls (1992) with my most recent CD out on 5 String Productions-In the Moment-This features 7 of my own originals and some other fabulous new tunes and some great Trad tunes as well. I am just starting a long term project to record me playing fiddle with some of my favorite banjo players (Jimmy McCown, Hilarie Burhans, Paul Sidlick, Pete Peterson, Dave Kiphuth, Alan Munde and others!) so stay tuned for that! I currently have a contra dance band called Jane's Gang which plays for lots of dances. I am also in a fabulous "new" old time band called Red Hen with Allan Carr, Linda Schrade, David Kiphuth and Allan Carr (www.janerothfield.com/jane/bands/red-hen-band/ for more info and some audio clips. Great harmonies and hot instrumentals! I also teach banjo and fiddle to grownups and kids-you are never too old or young to learn!
