Tried to learn banjo back in the 1970's, but gave up after 5 years. Then, I ran across Patrick's website. His "anyone can do this" attitude prompted me to try again. After 40 years of learning right brain stuff (painting, calligraphy, airplane acrobatics) I recognized that the standard left brain music methods I tried in the 70's was not the way to go. I developed my own teaching methods, based on right brain learning methods, and whoosh....Success. I'm farther ahead after 2 years of RB than I was after 5 years of traditional LB music instruction. I progressed so quickly that my friends don't believe me when I say 24 months...sigh. I know I'm not a "natural musician", based on my experience so long ago. Josh Turknett's method is similar to mine, btw. It really works :-) I still consider myself a beginner/intermediate, not a pro by any means. But I have a great time when I play.
