All-American Eagle

Friday, October 21, 2011

I'm now a proud owner of an All-American Eagle banjo, made by Johnnie Whisnant. Ralph Stanley played this banjo on tour in Japan over 40 years ago!

Started playing banjo at age 8. Took lessons from Johnnie Whisnant for 3 years. In the early 70's, my father bought 2 banjos that Johnnie made. One is the All-American that Ralph Stanley used to borrow from Al Jones. The other is the banjo that Steve Spence played when he played with The Grass Reflection. It has Johnnie's original "cheaters" on it. Johnnie Whisnant carved both banjos. I'm currently playing an early 70's Gibson RB-800. I play in a band here in WV. We call ourselves DC Grass.
